Yo Yo Yo Skiers!!

I know its not ski season yet but we are getting tons of gear in the door everyweek! I want to share some of our favorites for this ski season and let you get your's first before it's gone!!

Of Course our favorite is the ARMADA JJ with a new hot Pocahontas looking Alice in Wonderland theme that is a better graphic in my opinion than last year.

Think Snow

Cottonwood Skiing!

On May 28 I packed up the truck just me and my dog, you all know her as "PO" a great ski buddy, and a great shop dog. Cottonwood Pass just opened like it does every year for Memorial Day weekend. This is always the best time to hit it up. Driving up I was a little nervous that there wouldn't be enough snow but then we pulled up to where I was leaving the truck at the bottom and actually there is more snow than last year. It was a great day and always fun!

Here are the lines we are going to ski, from the peak on the left and right up to the truck.

Here is the truck parked up and ready to go, perfect to ski right up to it. Po can't wait to get started. Someone please pick us up, we are ready.

Here come's a truck, grab the gear and go!

This is the first truck that stopped for us but he didn't have room in his cab for us and there was nowhere on the back for us to sit. While I was talking to him, another truck stopped and we hopped in!

Here is the view out of the back of truck that Po and I were picked up in, scopping out our lines from a closer view, we are almost there.

When I got to the top to tag some stickers I saw that it had already been done. Here I'm joined by our local bike shop Big Al's Bicycle Heaven. These guys rock and I'm honored to be on a sign with them. There is also this HUGE Dragon sticker, Loki, our friends at Mountain Wave in Breck and a bunch of other stickers.

This is an old sticker that we made a long time ago, one of our first, and we don't use that logo anymore. Glad to see the originals are still around

This is an awesome view of Taylor Reservoir, it was a busy day out there full of fishermen but tough to see them from this high up.

A couple of us from Colorado FreeSkier went out and had a little redneck fun during off-season with GUNS. We love Guns, always respect them, but man they are fun.

We had a .40, .44 mag, a .25 from WWII, and a shotgun!

On March 13th, 2010, Colorado FreeSkier put on one of the sweetest events that has ever been put on in Crested Butte, Co.

"Big Air On Elk 2010"

We closed down our main street of Elk Ave, trucked in over 100 tons of snow and built a huge kicker that was hit by a lot of our team riders. Being pulled in by snowmobiles at 38 mph these guys were throwing down. 7's 9's Dave Sugnet even buttered around a 10!

Check out these great pics that were taken by Reny Sieck! The first one is snow being moved into the landing to make it soft for our competitors. Athlete meeting, and then Drew VanGorder giving the opening Test run showing the guys how fast they need to get going. Some really great pics of these guys showing there stuff and finally last pic is showing everyone up on the Eldo Deck watching with a birds eye view. Team rider and 13 year old Aaron Blunck won the whole thing, spinning 7's both ways and his cork 7 truckdriver to mute grab. Keep checking back for more pics later. Blazing Conditions in the CB/BC

After a week of copious amounts of snowfall , the Elk range called myself and sick local photographer Mike Horn of Backcountry Magazine out to shred the nearly 40" dump. To completely top things off we were the only users of the area on both days.

We ripped all aspects, with northern and easterly aspects providing the more blower snow conditions. Visibility at times deteriated, confining us to ski hallways in the trees, but who needs to see anyways when your in 40" of superb cron snow.

While we were in the trees most of the morning, we did happen upon some lovely light mid day and decided to step things up a little. This particular natural hit has always given my a chubby, and the small window of light persuaded me this time to send a back of the lip into a bottomless landing. Yeah Babyface!!!!

On the second day, we couldn't turn down a second helping of the tasters choice. I decided to show Mike a special little zone on a eastern aspect that I have been watching fill in. Not only were the turns off the top sweet, but this zone offered a bonus with a steep pillow area that looked more than healthy. Pretty sure no one had been in there all year long so we decided to set up and send it.

Afterwards we decided to drink a few barley pops.

CFS in Jackson

This past weekend I ventured off to Jackson Wyoming. It was my first time out to Jackson Hole and definitely won't be my last.

Day One I met up with the highly talented Lexi DuPont who showed me the goods around the resort.

I was truley amazed by the amount of terrain Jackson Hole offers.

After a great day of skiing with some of Jacksons best it was time to strap up the GoPro and put back a few drinks.

Day Two we loaded up the early tram on a mission to get off the resort and ski some of Jacksons famous backcountry.

On the top of the resort I met up with Bryce Newcomb who was generous enough to show me the large and in charge backcountry surrounding the resort.

My adventure ended with an amazing sunset of the Tetons.

Couldn't think of a better way to end a trip like this than blasting off a bottle of Cooks finest Champagne.

Jib Jam 2010

Eric Freson here with an update from a recent rail jam that was put on @ the Western State College Campus.

So after tons of hard work by Freeride Ski Team member Sam Degenhard, we finally have a rail park on the Western State College campus. To celebrate this event, we decided to throw an inaugural rail jam. This rail jam would also be an excellent opportunity for the WSC Freeride Ski Team to show off the new rails which we will be managing, and raise some much needed capital for our endeavors.

The rail jam was also coinciding with the inagural opening of Western States new Student Center. This new student center has been a huge undertaking on the college campus, and to celebrate, WSC had invited over a thousand alumni to take part in the celebration. A busy night!

So with the help of WSC's Facilities, bobcats were used to push show into place in front of the new Student Union. The rails, which will be permanently placed in the ground on a hill under the football field, would be showcased in front of the College Center for the evening to allow for maximum traffic and exposure.

On a side note, the event was so successful that the school asked us to leave the rails in place where they stand until the snow melts. Hopefully come winter next year, we will be able to locate the rail park in a central position such as this again.

After many long days of meetings with the school, restoration work on the rails, planning, and prep (most of which was done by Sam), the night finally arrived and the show was on!

The event would take place from 6-9pm. It was done under the lights, and with bumpin sound.

Competitors started to roll in around 5:45. The first half hour of the actual event was to also be used as practice. This would give judges a chance to check out the competition, as well as allow us to finish last minute set up stuff, take it money and waivers, organize competitors, allow participants to familiarize themselves with the rails, etc etc etc.

More and more people continued to show, and by the time it got dark, the lights were on, and we were packed to capacity. All told, we had 45 competitors. The group was split pretty evenly between skiers and boarders. Mostly men, with 5 total female competitors. A great showing. All students.

People began to session the rails. The setup was good, and allowed all rails to be hit at the same time. This meant there wasn't much lag time between "laps" for competitors. The quick pace meant good viewing, and spectators were showing up to. At any one time we had over 200 spectators watching the event.

A big shout out goes out to Conor Finney and Red Bull. During the event, he hooked up with several cases for competitors and spectators alike. We stuck a ton in the in ramp for competitors, and proceeded to throw the rest to spectators throughout the night. It was likely watching a piranha feeding frenzy when I would throw em out to the crowd. People truly go nuts for Red Bull.

After the first round, we took a break to do some course work, and to allow the judges to make some cuts. The finals were cut down to the top 16 total competitors from all fields. The finals would take the next hour. We also brought out the Banshee Bungee, which had been donated to the team by the Colorado Freeskier. This allowed folks to get more speed, with Drew VG and others even disaster'ing the down rail.

People were stoked and the finals were going off. I wish I had some pictures of people using the bungee to throw up, but I was the lucky guy with the job of stretching it up the hill each time someone wanted to use it. These things are rad however, and will throw people into about any obstacle at upwards of 30mph. We even had to do a little crowd control to make sure no one got smacked in the face by the thing if someone let go if it early and it which blasting through the air.

There was a a huge super elimination round to decide 3rd place for men's skiers, as it was a tie, and the energy was peaked at this point. Drew was poised to take it. The bungee was being used for more speed, and people were stoked. Huge cheers, huge tricks.

Finally, a decision was made, and the comp was done. Prizes were awarded, and the prizes from the "ticketed giveaway" were, well, given away. People dispersed and we begun the job of breaking everything down. The process didn't take too long, and we were out partying a little after 10.

Overall, a great night, and a huge success for the WSC Freeride Ski Team, as well as the rail park.

A big thank you to Gabe and the Colorado Freeskier for the Banshee Bungee and judging support by Freeskier athlete Alex Albers. Athletes Eric Freson and Ciera Glenn also helped to plan, promote, and run the event. And athletes Drew Van Gorder, Mikey Curran, John O'Rourke all took part and did well.

February Free-Skiing

WHAT UP, WHAT UP WHAT UP! It is Scriz here bringing you the latest and greatest of what is going on with the Colorado Freeskier familia. In the last week I touched snow for the first time this YEAR (yeah you read that right). As of the last three months I have been in San Francisco studying for the MCAT's. But as the saying goes it is about quality not quantity. So back to the skiing, Level 1 productions drove down from the front range the crew included the hardest working man in the business Mr. Josh Berman, joker by night skier by day Liam Downey, style master Tanner Rainville, and the ambassador of hyphy Adam Delorme. These guys came, they saw, they SLAYED. The pics are of a feature up washington gulch in which Liam, Adam and I hit.

The last pic is looking back at Mt. Crested Butte and man she looks good! Other than that look for the great deals and awesome contests that Colorado Freeskier will be having JEA double JEA! So every one do the snow dance and I will catch you laters.

The Epicness of Ecuador!

Whats up all Brandon Clabaugh just getting back to Crested Butte, CO after an epic trip to Ecuador. I took a bunch of pictures through out the trip so I will just take you start to Finish.
So the first Stop was the Capital of Ecuador, Quito. After traveling all day from the States we landed in a sketchy airport in the middle of the mountains in Quito.

For the next 3 days we went around and did some sight seeing around Quito.

The Next day we took a ride up the gondola called Telefonica that brought us to the volcano over looking Quito The Volcano
After that we decided to make a trip to the middle of the world Lama Lovin

The Next day we Caught a flight out of Quito at 6am and got into manta at 730 it was a bit different than the mountains and dry air.

Later that day we rented a car and drove up the coast to some chill beach's in a little town that we might have been the only people who spoke english and had a car that ran.

The next day we drove down the coast from manta to Salinas which took about 6 hours but there was so much different landscape it was crazy

Ohio Mtn and Kill Shot Ridge

What's up everyone my names Forrest Cole, i'm apart of the CFS team and live right outside of crested butte! Lately there's been a lot of snow falling up here in Irwin Co. So far i'd say around 65inches and still snowing!

But before this huge dump my step dad Brent and I bagged a couple of peaks, got some shots, and had some good times!

First let's start off with Ohio peak, i didn't get to many pictures on this trip, but there's enough to show you what went on.

Really sketchy conditions, one side was blower pow, and the other side was horrible punchy snow. Glad i made it down safely!

Next we skied Kill Shot Ridge, in between Ruby and Owen, right above green lake!

After a long skin/post hole we made it to our dropping point. Only to start a pretty big avalanche right where we wanted to drop. So we skied down the ridge aways to a spot a little more open and a little more safe.

Skiing Crested Buttes Backcountry

CFS in Revelstoke, BC

In January, 2010, Nick Fountain and Alex Else traveled to Revelstoke, British Columbia for the Canadian Freeskiing Championships. They drove straight through the 25 hour trek to arrive at the base of Revelstoke Resort on a cloudy powder day.

The weather stayed cloudy and snowy during the week in Canada, but the boys were able to keep their tips up and get some pics of the area. the resort itself is only 4 years old with 1 gondola and 2 high speed chairs. It has 5640 vertical feet to ski and a huge amount of side country open to any rowdy skiers and riders. Mackenzie face (below) is one HUGE peak that only 1 guy has ever skied.

Fountain showed how east coast skiers can rip on any snow conditions with a 5th place finish in the qualifier on Seperate Reality (below). He flashed the upper section and soared the main cliff to a stomped landing, then made super G turns into the lower trees where he aired out and into the finish.

Both Else and Fountain had bad luck on Day 1 of the event. Fountain teed up a modest 40 foot drop that ended with a back slap taking him out of the top 20. Else attempted a double stager but ended with a backseat landing that landed him 24th, and 1 point below the cut to continue to the heli access finals the following day. There is always next year for the Canadian Freeskiing Championships in beautiful Revelstoke, BC.

Powder and Friends

It started snowing again in Crested Butte! And the other day I went out skiing with Max and Jenny! We had an awesome day of a couple of fresh inches on the ground just enough to soften up the trees and have some choppy pow on the side of groomers.

We were all skiing fat skis ready for the powder Max and Jenny were on his pro-model Rossignol System Ski that he has donated all the proceeds to Denver's Children Hospital. Not only does Max give his money to the Children's Hospital he has is own camp in the spring for them call "Life Turns". Check out the website. I was on my Armada JJ's that I love!

Back to skiing, Jenny recently separated her shoulder but that doesn't stop her from dropping a knee and getting gnarly with it. Here's Jenny hauling ass and waving "Hi Mom!"

Waving to Mom wasn't enough Jenny had to get her six shooter out and show off for the camera! Yeah get it Jenny!

Everyone ripping it I wanted to get in the action too so I found a little soft snow went with old faithful, the spread eagle crotch grad, one of my all time favorites.

Being the competitor that Max is he couldn't pass up the chance to show me how a true tele spread eagle looks so he went for it, my awesome camera skills caught the moment, almost.

Carefully following the route labeled “Park & Pipe” on his Treasured Trail map, the Captain searched through his spy glass. He had to be close when he spotted an endless progression of groms and pros arcing effortless switch turns while spraying a roost on everyone they passed. College Jib Jam Hits Crested Butte Today!

Come party and or show off your park skills for an early celebration of the 08-09' season. Registration begins at 9:00- 12:00 at the treasury building in front of Adaptive Sports Center. Event begins at 1:00pm. Entry fee is $10 which includes contest, drink specials, free entrance into bars. ALL PROCEEDS DONATED TO ADAPTIVE SPORTS CENTER. Over 20 sponsors with $1000+ of swag to be given out to contestents!! After party @ Butte 66 followed by Lo Bar w/ DJ @ 10:00pm.
